Coach’s Corner

Hello Marauder Alumni

The Marauders collected a win this past weekend at Cheyney University by the score of 34-12. All three phases of the game scored and contributed to the win. David Coates returned a kickoff in the 2nd quarter for a touchdown to put the Marauders in front and to break a 6-6 tie. Cheyney had scored to tie the game but the Kickoff return snatched the momentum right back. The team showed resiliency.

One of the most pivotal points in the win came with 2 minutes left in the 1st half. PJ Santos notched his 4th interception of the season in the red zone to stop a potential game tying drive by Cheyney. The offense then took over on a 2 minute drive, drove the length of the field, and capped it with a 7 yard TD pass with 3 seconds left in the half. That pushed the lead to 20-6 and gave the Marauders momentum heading into halftime. Having Matt Misley, starting QB, return from injury this week added a spark to the offense that has been missing since his injury.

The first 4 drives of the 2nd half were back & fourth until the Marauder offense took control of the game. The team drove 95 yards in 17 plays and consumed almost 9 minutes off the game clock and ended the drive with a TD extending the lead to 27-12.

The Marauder defense strongly closed out the game with a stop on downs and a fumble return for a TD to close out the game 34-12. It was a much needed, positive win for the players, coaches and the program.

Looking ahead to the weekend, the Marauders will travel to Edinboro. The Scots are coming off a win over Seton Hill and have played close games with top teams in both the PSAC East & West. They have a strong offense and are a veteran defense. The weather is calling for late November snow. It should be a great day to play football against a worthy opponent. Our team will work hard this week to end the season on a high note. A two game win streak to finish the season would mean a great deal to all associated with the football program. We want our Seniors’ last game to be a victory.

Our touchdown total this season is at 21. We have scored more in 10 games this season than we did last season in 11. We’ve shown signs of improvement in several areas. As this young team matures and gains experience, we expect the improvement to continue. Currently, our field goal block team leads the nation in DII with 10 total blocked kicks. Trent Petrovich is leading the nation in individual blocked kicks and Neil Moloney is # 5 in the nation. Small markers of achievement lead to bigger things for the team.

I want to personally thank you for being a member of the Marauder Touchdown Club. Your willingness to support this team and these players allows us as a coaching staff to provide the best possible environment for these players to achieve success on and off the field.
Yours in Football,

Greg Breitbach Head Football Coach
