Coaches Corner

We are in the midst of recruiting.  Signing day has come and gone – and as usual in Division II, the recruiting gets more hectic right after Wednesday.  We are very happy to have two commits we can announce (NCAA Regulations specify when we can put out their names – lot of paperwork involved!)  They are both QB’s, one – Conner Casey is from Bethlehem Catholic HS, the other – Curtis Frye is from Clearfield.  Both should come in and help make us better right away.

This year we focused on QB’s (check that one off!), and Offensive Line.  We have had 9 linemen on campus, and plan to have at least that many more in our quest to sign between 3 and 5 this year.   To this point we have had 54 young men visit in the last 2 weeks, with as many to come in the next 10 days.  Beyond our focus positions, we plan on taking players at every position as we work to continue to improve our talent level.

Last Sunday 175 people attended our team banquet for last season.  We were able to honor and recognize our players for their continued attitude, effort and accomplishments.  We had 56 letter winners this year, the most we’ve had in a while.  With 18 of 22 starters returning next year, 19 returning Seniors, for the first time in 5 years we will be an older team.  That experience should help us be more competitive in 2012.  That’s vital, since our schedule gets tougher as we switch the crossover games with the PSAC West.  Next year we drop Lock Haven, Clarion and Gannon, and pick up Mercyhurst, IUP and Cal PA.  Add that to the teams playing well in the East, and we’ll have our hands full.

This years Spring Game is scheduled for Saturday April 28 at 4 pm.  I hope you all have a chance to come out and preview the 2012 Marauders!
